Strong Start Psychological Services is a specialty early childhood psychology practice that offers parent support groups, highlighting the role of parents at the center of their child's development. Groups are designed to provide parents/caregivers with a space to receive and share support with others who have similar parenting experiences. Specific support groups are offered for: parents of young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); parents of young children with medical complexity. Groups are scheduled based on interest and demand; workshops offered in English and Spanish.
Our approach to prevention and early intervention services is to focus on supporting parents who in turn support their child. We offer parenting workshops for pregnant parents/caregivers, parents/caregivers of young children, and others planning to become parents. While there is no one 'right way' to parent, we believe that by providing parents with evidence-based tools and strategies to address common early childhood concerns (e.g., picky eating, sleep concerns, potty-training issues), neurodevelopmental concerns (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), developmental delay), and burgeoning behavioral health concerns (e.g., challenging behavior, anxiety), parents can feel empowered to parent in ways that align with their values and that set their child up for success. We also provide a space for facilitation of support groups for parents. We are committed to moving the early childhood development field in the 'prevention' direction. When available and clinically appropriate, we offer short-term individual therapy services for children and their parents. In most cases, we provide resources and referrals to other community providers to ensure that families are connected to care that best suits their specific needs and situation.
