Strong Start Psychological Services is a specialty early childhood psychology practice that offers Early Kindergarten Entry Testing for age-qualified 4-year-olds in North Carolina. To enroll in kindergarten in North Carolina, a child must turn 5-years-old on or before August 31st of the year presented for enrollment. However, in cases when a child has turned 4-years-old on or before April 16th of the current school year, and when that child is advanced across several areas of development, parents may choose to apply for consideration of early kindergarten entry for their child.
All decisions and application guidelines regarding early kindergarten entry are made by school districts. Part of the application process typically includes completion of formal, standardized Early Kindergarten Entry Testing by a Licensed Psychologist to evaluate your child's cognitive and early achievement skills. The results of this psychoeducational testing serve as one piece of the early kindergarten application packet.

Our approach to Early Kindergarten Entry Testing is to provide an excellent, individualized experience for each child and family. Completing testing for early kindergarten admission can be a stressful experience for families and children alike, and we strive to make the experience enjoyable. We utilize the standardized assessment measures and tools required by school districts in North Carolina and provide families with a final evaluation report. We also provide recommendations for families in how to support the ongoing growth and development of their young child in both cases when a child's scores meet the school district "cut-off" for early kindergarten entry and when their scores do not.
